You also need to create your own Lion boot disk in VMWare:
http://www.sysprobs.com/create-boota...ased-computers

Requirements:
VMWare 7.x
Intel C2D or higher CPU
Working copy of Snow Leopard on VMWare
OS X Lion purchased and downloaded onto Snow Leopard VM

I made the disk last night, I haven't gotten around to try installing it yet. You try this yet Bearclaw?

I will post back when I go through with it.
Now I wish that I had my linux laptop back.

I am running it in VMWare on Windows, not OSX.

I mean, installing it on my Dell is against the EULA too. But I haven't pirated any of it. I have spent $60 for Snow Leopard and Lion.

/me shrugs

Oh, but running OS X on non-Apple hardware is a violation as well. So...

Yea I figured as much. It was approved by the top dog, and you have to admit it's kind of cool.

The development effort behind it is cool. Getting it to work and such. But I don't support it just because it's cool.
MikeC of course. I like tinkering with it.

I am thinking about getting a Mac mini after I pay off my Best Buy card in November. 18 months no interest is a good deal. I would really like a 15" Macbook Pro with a 1680x1050 screen, but I don't have the cash for that (yet).

You're studying right now, correct? Isn't the MacBook Pro the student's laptop?
At least here it is. You can get insane discounts: the latest models, upgraded even, including the 3 Year Apple Care Protection Plan for less than the normal retail base price. It's available twice a year, right before the start of a new semester. Not to mention great software discounts as well.

Unfortunately, I was never lucky enough to profit from those offers. That was during the time Apple used nVidia Chipsets and that's not something I wanted. No matter how great the offer was.

btw, what is a Best Buy card? Is that like a credit card just for Best Buy?
Yes, credit card just for Best Buy. They give decent financing options. Student packages aren't that great here really. You only get $100 off and for the hardware I want, about a $1700 machine, it's a drop in the bucket. I'm a poor grad student lol.

I do get great software deals.

Got Lion working in a VM last night. Going to try installing it natively on my Sabertooth X58 desktop sometime soon. I will need to install Snow Leopard first, then Lion. I will post feedback/comments when I attempt it.

Installed Snow Leopard on my Sabertooth X58 and updated to 10.6.8. The 5870 works great and looks awesome. Sound works and my chip is detected as an i7 at 4GHz with all 6GB of RAM. My machine shows up as a Mac Pro.

I am going to attempt to install Lion sometime this weekend. I'll keep you all posted.

pm me, how'd it work with Lion?
what boot loader did you use.

also, when you press space on a picture does it show up as normal or is it grey.
same goes for when you open it (any picture).

I can post here. I used a retail copy of Snow Leopard, then purchased Lion from the App store and installed using xMove. All tutorials I used can be found here:

Install Snow Leopard via iBoot and Multibeast:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/...c-os-x-on.html

Then I used xMove and Multibeast:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/...-107-lion.html

I used a machine specific DSDT for my Sabertooth X58. If anyone needs those files I can link them. Opening and previewing via space bar both work. The picture shows up.

10.6.8 killed my sound for snow leopard which I have fixed. but I can't open pictures in full screen anymore. its a pain in the ass.
I already have Lion, I'll have to try to upgrade the vm.
thanks

(is that your blog? my name is tony too)
