This seems like a lot of people with this problem. What kind of faulty rate are are we looking at here; is it every other card? One out of 10? Anyone have a clue?

Well I moved my card from the top PCI-E slot to the bottom one..

idle temps dropped 10 degrees ! so for those with a 680i or 780i board
it's worth a shot if you're northbridge fan is blowing directly onto your video card.

It looks like on the 680i, and 708i motherboards the fan on the north bridge
is blowing DIRECTLY at the video card, and in the review linked above caused
their 280 to overheat..

I have a 680i and I'm DEFINITELY going to remove the north bridge fan and get
an extra 120-mm fan to keep it cool. THIS IS RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!

Anyway, hopefully it solves the problem for some people!

http://www.putfile.com/pic/8328059 -pic of issue.

It has nothing to do with northbridge fan. I have two 8800GTX SLI on my mobo and they never go over 82C on Full Load. Those two cards produce huge amount of heat, more then single GTX280. Also add SB xi-Fi installed between them.
You guys need to have fan on 100% all the time. Also make sure you have good fans on back to take out. I have 200mm fan on window side. It's thermaltake case (got it there mounted by thermaltake).

The bottom line is that you need good airflow and make sure hot air doesn't get trapped inside the case. Also heat sink on card has to be installed propertly.

Hopefully you mean your PCB temp is 47... 47C ambient would mean you live in Death Valley without air conditioning.

BFG GTX 280 OC. Definitely something odd going on here, jumps from 50C idle to 105C in seconds running furmark. In an open case, ambient case temp 24C. Overclock even 1Mhz and as soon as it gets past 75C or so and it drops its clocks and the card crawls. Needs a reboot to clear it, at stock speeds it runs fine even at silly temps. Fan ramps up and down just fine. Thing is it goes to 100% fan a hell of a lot faster than I've ever seen a card do before.

Same thing happened with mine. RMA it, it's faulty...

Edit: Has anyone besides eVGA and BFG suffered this problem? As far as I can tell, I haven't seen anyone with another make complain... Then again, they are the most popular brands around here...
