Guys, tell to me!
gtx 280 overheats because of bad assemblage of system of cooling or the chip nvidia is guilty?

Excuse my English, it for me not the native.

It's difficult to say if it's nvidia's fault or just bad assembly of the cards.
I would have to guess it's something more then just the assembly though since
quite a lot of people have had the problem with lots of different brands.

bottom line is, these cards arent suppose to crash/overheat at those temperatures, which only means that those are bad cores you are having in there, that cant operate at those supposed normal temps.

save yourself the mental torture of having spent a **** loads of cash on a faulty card and simply RMA it. i did it, and so far my new card seems fine, so i'm happy with it.

my system:
asus p5q deluxe
4gb 1066 ocz reaper
xfx 280gtx extreme edition 640mhz
coolermaster m850w
antec nine hundred
Well, if it was artifacting at 85C, it's very likely it couldn't handle the pre-overclocked speeds. 85C is well within safe operational temps, even 90C is safe. My BFG card reached 94C before I rearranged a couple of case fans. Until recently, it did not exceed 85C unden any circumstances...

Well, the overheating issue is not from the cooler... If you install a fan infront of the card's intake, the temps drop a lot. My cards max out at 80C when the A/C is on and around 85 with it off. Before I put the fan there they would reach 86-87C with the A/C on... Pretty high but within operating limits...

aparently the overheating issue is due to poor contact with the thermal paste... 87*C is still about 20*C lower than what mine was running at
