I Lie about MPG
|
***I don't want to hear about how I am stupid for leaving Intel,***
How is performance with your Phenom? I dont want 3dmark scores I want real world fps scores So I am thinking of building a new(er) Gaming system. My thoughts: Phenom Nvidia 780a 2xGTX 260's then I would just hand over my current PC to my wife and sell hers. WHY I want this setup: I want to try this Hybrid SLI from NVIDIA, and see how much power it can save. Also cut back on having to A/C my computer room all the time.

Partly off topic, but if you want to conserve power, try to get yourself a certified 80+ PSU. The SeaSonic S12 series is one of the best, if not the best, for this. As an added bonus, due to their high efficiency, they put out very little heat and noise.

Well, I can play Crysis with everything on "High", no AA or AF of any kind, at 1680x1050 with it being perfectly playable atleast 95% of the time. Using any noticable amount of AA + 16xAF means you have to drop it down to "Medium" in-game settings... but it's old news that with Crysis we're hitting a GPU limit, not CPU limit. So with the setup you mention (oh, let's just use the 9750 Black Edition) + dual GTX 260s... you'd have a killer rig.
As is, I've yet to find any game that'll really stress my 9600 at stock speeds. I'll be the first to admit it's no Q6600... but it more than get's the job done if its main use is gaming. ![]() |

I'm happy with my 9850...but I've already had a thread about it.
I always root for the underdog....and right now that's AMD...so they get my cash.

I havent ever been disappointed by my NVIDIA/AMD chipsets like I have with my NVIDIA Intel Chipsets (680/780/790)
But I want SLI (I sold my 790i and went back to my P35) So that is a big factor for me, and the 780a gets some pretty good reviews. I think the GTX 260 is the card to get for price/performance. (I am waiting for 4870x2 reviews and doing a possible 780g?) I am not looking to have high scores in vantage, just a great gaming machine.

Woah! AMD is fighting hard with their Phenoms! That's a good deal for the processor alone, but you also get 2GB of memory as well!

I jumped on the deal on Newegg- it's now $100.00 after rebate for a 9600BE and 2gb of Crucial ddr2 memory
For those who run the 9600 what do you do about the TLB fix and Vista SP1? Does AMD's Overdrive disable the fix?
