Default 177.13 vs. 8700M (moving forward)

The 177.13 seems to move forward a bit in function from the 173.14.

The major new thing I notice is that the driver correctly detects and selects the flat panel on my desk vs. the flat panel in the laptop when it is connected --- meaning that I can finally use most of the features on the large flat panel. Good one.

Nvidia-settings still reports that the card is stuck in 170 Mhz mode. Nvidia-settings also seems to think the system is on battery power. If the battery/AC state was correctly obtained, maybe my problem of being stuck in 170Mhz mode would be solved?

(heh... following up to my own post)

... however it would seem that the 100% of one cpu is still taken by interrupts from the card.
