These screens are with an SSC overclock and I played Crysis for well over an hour.

Another Hot potato here.

Evga 280 gtx SC

Air conditioned room, cm690 with fans on full blast and it's still getting
up to 105c in a minute then throttling. I even saw it go to 107 before i
closed the app, This was just in a couple of games i tested, diddn't even
want to try furmark :S.

Im going to start my RMA today.

i was also one of the lucky ones with a faulty card:

XFX GTX280 XT (Extreme Edition) 640Mhz

it operated nicely at first, but after 30-45mins of crysis is started showing some artifacts, tearing and other odd visuals (red, purple, black lines, dots etc). to top it off, it freezed while the in-game sound continued and i had to finally force restart my system.

also it showed artifacts in atitool, but somehow ran furmark superbly for some reason. call of duty 4 also crashed when reaching around or above 80 degrees celsius, same like crysis.

i'm pretty sure it was a faulty card, nothing to do with my in-case airflow, driver, bios version etc. i RMA-ed it and got a new one which show none of the above mentioned symptoms so far.

My EVGA GTX-280

Idels At 53c on water and jumps to 115c after 10 seconds of running after talking with EVGA they issued an RMA and are cross Shipping me a new one for a charge :/.

Collant temp leaving water block is 29c so there is obeviously a problem I reseated card still exact same issue.

Koolance Tech Said With My temp should not be higher than 45c under load with there water block and my coolant temps.

EVGA Tech said Nvidia had some issues on early cards with heat spreader to CPU contact / Thermal Medium.

EVGA rocks hopefully my Card shows up on Saturday I paid $20.00 for Saturday cross shipping and a return label.

Ill post again tommorow to let you know what is up.

To bad I have to RMA a brand new card .

I Also bought Corsair HX1000W Power supply first because I though power was issue never dreamed Temp was issue.

Video Just shuts down and then computer reboots.

I wonder how long we will have to wait before it is safe to buy 280GTXs. The poll results haven't fluctuated much since the 280GTX was launched, I kinda want to buy another 280GTX because of the dropping prices but I also don't want to deal with the hassles involved with the 50% chance I may get a bad one.

I was reading an article from PC World about the Dell fix for the Nvidia overheat.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/14905...dia_chips.html

1. The Dell patch is to turn on the fan in the BIOS.

2. Nvidia is not sure as to the cause of the excessive gpu heat. They think it may be related to the die packaging material.

3. Microsft had or has overheating issues in the XBox and has offered to R & R for the owners. This maybe old as I don't have an Xbox and am not current.

In any event Dell has an open can of worms to deal with. the only real fix is to replace the motherboard which sounds like they are reluctant to do.

And the point of this, all of you with 280's that are overheating do you think it is related to item 2?

My replacement card arrived today. I've only done a very quick test so far but it's looking good. It got up to 53c with some light gaming where the other card would have been red lined at 105c in seconds.

My third BFG GTX 280, and still 105C. 1st card shot up to 105 in 5 minute. 2nd card took about 30 minutes. 3rd card shot up in 5 minutes again. Getting a 4th one tomorrow. This is weak.

*Update* I was being generous with my timing. I realized it was much faster than 5 and 30 minutes. See above for details

I had to RMA my first one because of the temp shooting up past 100C. Now my 2nd one barely reaches 80C and all I did was swap it with my older one and never even touched or replaced the thermal compound.
