Exclamation Re: E8600 @ 5GHz on air

Do not trust in those overclocks for daily use. Also, i think that 1.6V on a 45nm chip is dangerous & hard to keep cool.

There really isn't much benefit in an E8600 over an E8500 for aircooling at this point. The E8xxx series already reach insane FSBs on practically any platform. 500FSB is pretty common, and with the 9.5 multiplier of the E8500 that gets you 4.75GHz which is only obtainable for 24/7 use with phase change.

But at what price? E8600 will cost $500 or so, no?

They are using 1.6v neither wonder defintly not 24/7 use as the processors will not cope with that much voltage.

The E8500 is only $80 more then the E8400, so I'd imagine around $300-$350. Very few people would pay $500+ for a socket 775 dual core w/ Nehalem so close.

Currently the launch price is suppose to be $266. Appears to be a good overclocker. Love the x10 multiplier. Paired up with a couple of 4870 (1GB if and when released) in CF would make a nice upgrade.

Retail boxed? Gah, if true, that'll annoy me. Just installed my OEM E8500 last night for $219.

I'll believe it when I see it for sale, which will be who knows when.
