Default Striker II SB over temperature problem

Help! I am a total newbie trying to help my son build a computer. Everything seemed to go well but the computer would shutdown after maybe 10 to 15 minutes. On restart it gives the error--"SB Over temperature". I checked the bios on a few startups and the temp of NB and SB are quite high to start (54 ish). The SB ticks up about 1 degree per 3 seconds. The auto shutoff is set to 90. I have moved the video card and many othere things but the temp still rises quickly. I am not overclocking.

Thanks for any help. Cheers

Its quite possible you have a defective piece. Check temperatures manually with a store bought sensor. it may just be that the temp is not that high but the on board sensor is reading it wrong. Starting off at 54 is insane for that board man. Also Check if you have the right kinda cooling or if the fan is placed right.... odds are that you got a faulty piece and you should have no trouble replacing it coz you arent overclocking and all.... hope this helps

asus fixed the problem with a bios change, now you can set your overheating shutdown temps for NB and SB to 110c in the bios!!!

max was 90c, that was the fix.

Thanks for the suggestion, and the link. I returned the board for a new one, from compUSA. I must say that they made the process unbelievably easy.

So I installed the new board and it has the same problem as the last one. On booting up I go immediately into the setup to check the temperatures. After being on only a few seconds the temperatures read as follows:

CPU temp 50C
MB Temp 43C
NB Temp 52C
SB Temp 74C

After only 15 minutes the NB goes to 58C
And the SB goes to 90 and then shuts down

I have used my current case with a dfi lanparty board for amd and had no problems. Our house temp is around 73 and the case is large with good ventilation.
