Default Think EVGA GTX285 is dying...

Okay, so lately when and if I run a GPU intense program, there is a high-pitch buzzing sound coming from somewhere on the card. Is this a sign that is telling me my card may be going? It never did that before. This card came OCed by EVGA and I've always run it that way since I got it. What could be causing this sound?

Have you cleaned the fan (card) for dust. Could be a bad capacitor.

Yes, I used air to blow out dust in the heatsink's fins and fan assembly. The video card is actually really clean right now. You might be right...maybe a bad cap and probably will go out sooner or later. Maybe I should RMA it before it dies?

Yep as long as you registered your card EVGA will take care of you. Contact them for RMA.

My evga 285 always made noise... particularly in Crysis, furmark, etc...

I think its just the power circuitry on those cards

More than likely it's just a coil. I assume it only happens during very high FPS? It's not a big deal, more than likely the card is ok. I have heard people were able to reduce the noise by using hot glue on the coil. Though the coil noise is more of a whine than a buzz. So who knows.

Yeah, it's called "Coil whine" according to the EVGA Tech. They said I should try a different PSU to see if it makes any difference. They said maybe my PSU isn't providing a continuous clean power to the card or something. So far I don't have another good PSU to try so I'm just gonna live with this coil whine.

My BFG 285 made noise even on the WEI test, it would do a light squeal.

Also, my Asus P5K MB would squeal in certain situations as well.

I tried another PSU and it's still whining, so I guess I will just live it until it actually dies.
