Not at those resolution of course, because none of the cards could run those effectively.
The GTX 280 should be the first choice for people with 30" + screens, I'm not denying that, but for lower resolutions with 8xAA the 4870 gets the job done quite nicely. ![]() http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...nce/page15.asp ![]() ![]() ![]()

Secondly, I have an SLI motherboard that I really haven't had the chance to put through its paces, and since I can't get two ATI cards on here, the obvious was to put to nVidia cards in... these will most likely be the last graphics cards on this board. I do think the 4870 is a good card, and I seriously considered waiting until the 4870x2 showed up, but alas I'm not a very patient person ![]()

I've owned plenty of AMD/ATI products and I may purchase a hd4000 series... However, I'm not going to pretend like they've had a great record the past few years. I will congratulate them when they show real leadership and maintain prolonged product advantage over their competitors at which time they will have earned the right to be more profitable then they have been of late.
p.s. The fastest single gpu sells for $499. Sounds like a bargain compared to Intel.

You could spend $1500 on a QX9775 CPU, $650 on a Skulltrail motherboard, $840 on 4Gb of Corsair Dominator DDR3 or $550 on a PCP&C 1200W PSU. The GTX 280 is the cheapest top of the line component you can buy at $499. ![]()
