Nvidia has been driving the prices up because of no real competition from ATI. $650 GPUS, $350 motherboards. That's just absurd. It shows you how much they were marking them up when they can just knock off $100 so easily. I think that's getting screwed when they do it 2 weeks after launch.

I agree that this is a total ripoff. I know that Nvidia or its partners didn't force us to buy the cards, but it does make you wonder about Nvidia's ability to continue in this market. Their best GPU is about to be overthrown by their arch-rival. When the HD 4870 X2 releases, it will humiliate the GTX 280. We won't see a GTX 280 GX2 in its current form as the GPU is just too big to fit two of them on one card. It looks like AMD/ATI is back on top, which is a good thing for the consumer. It's not so good if you're an early adopter like me who's been ripped off.

I agree that nvidia ripped people off. But, as I said earlier, that is not newegg's fault. At least if you returned the card to newegg, they could return it to the manufacture and try to get a refund. But, if newegg gives you a credit for it, THEY are the ones losing the money. If newegg does this with everyone on every product that drops in price, there will be no more newegg. It sucks, I would be pissed too...but not at newegg.....at nvidia.

I would also be pissed at Newegg. They have stock they already bought from Nvidia. Do you mean to tell me that Nvidia is not reimbursing them for cards they have already bought before the price reduction? There are other online retailers that offer price guarantees as well as brick and mortar stores. Believe me, they still make money or they wouldn't do this. They want to appease their customers, and you know why? If the customers are happy, they will keep buying from them!!!!! In the end, they will make even more money. Maybe this is not the case with Newegg. I'll find out soon enough.

I just spoke with Newegg customer service and guess what!!! They will issue a credit to my account for $110!!!! This is a one-time only adjustment, but it's still great. I'm hoping that I see the adjustment soon as I was told it takes 3 to 5 business days to process. If I get this credit, I'll buy even more from Newegg.

Well, I wasn't as lucky as you to get the full $110 back, they offered me a $50 credit. Probably because I did it online versus talking to someone on the phone. But hey, at least I was able to get something back.

I paid the straight $399 for an eVGA 260 from Newegg the day it came out. My purchase only came with the "exchange" offer from Newegg, and not the standard refund option.
I'm hoping to make back up some ground using eVGA's step-up program down the line since they're supposed to give me my original purchase price value of my card. |

I don't blame Newegg for this. Nvidia just launched the card at a ridiculous price vs. the HD 4870.

I love the egg too.
But uh......Nvidia didn't rip anyone off. It wouldn't be a very good business if they didn't make a profit. If you are willing to pay $650 for the video card, that is what the price will be.
