Hello,
Any ideas/solutions to my problem with blinking on screen display when using VDPAU. I've reported this problem to xine bug list but because the problem can be traced back to a specific Nvidia driver version I thought Ì would post to nvnews also. Sorry if this is considered a bad practice. Problem is reported as bug 441 in xine-projects bug-tracker. I'll duplicate the problem description here: "Since Nvidia driver version 275.09.07 there's a quick flicker in image when xine is displaying on screen display. It seems that the osd blinks the whole image either black or white. It's hard to tell. This is very annoying when using xineliboutput-plugin and vdr-sxfe with VDR with dvb-subtitled programming. Osd is used to display the subtitles so screen flickers every time the subtitle texts change. Problem isn't vdr-sxfe specific, though. Same blinking also occures with xine-ui. For example when pressing button i, osd is used to display Deinterlace enabled/disabled message and the screen blinks. Blinking seems happen only if the osd has changed between hiding it and displaying it again. There's blinking only with VDPAU and nvidia driver version > 275.09.07 with compositing disabled. With compositing there is no blinks (only tearing). I can't tell if this is nvidia driver problem or xine-problem. Newest driver I've tested is 290.10. My system is Debian Linux 64bit with Gerforce GT220 and Xine-lib-1.2 from Mercurial but others have reported similar problems with different kind of setups." |

Can you please attach an nvidia-bug-report.log as per the sticky instructions?

Hi,
it seems to be that recent nvidia display drivers (>275.09.07) have a flicker issue when vdpau output surfaces are created and destroyed on demand like it is done within osd and grab handling in xine-lib. You can easily see the flickering also when increasing the size of the xine player window with the mouse which results in heavy flickering. While increasing, the output surfaces for the display queue are recreated to conform to the actual display size. |

This issue seems to have been fixed in xine-lib-1.2 at some point.
