I picked two, as I am happy with 2D (5,5 sec 100er run in gtkperf, kde 4.1 is fast) and with 3D (ut2004 runs fine on high details, even though this is a mobile GPU with 128 MB of VRAM)

So I guess my decision was right, even though nvidia had and still has some issues.

Right now situation has changed a little, because nvidia fixed some longstanding and critical (for many users) performance problems. But nvidia 2D is still very poor for me in many applications. Ati isn't problem free, but they didn't have such performance problems. I'd love to have great 2D and 3D and it looks like AMD/Ati is much closer to give me that.

pawels133, to be fair the problems you are having don't seem to be reproducable. I've seen your crazy artifacts without compositing in kde3, but I haven't heard of anyone else having that same problem. You also mention bad firefox performance when you move your mouse over the toolbar options, which again, I've not seen mentioned here before (and I don't have it even with a geforce2 on one box). It's possible you just have a bad card. I got crazy artifacts and weird colours with a 440 Go when the card broke (fell off a desk ).

Where does ATI have better 3D support than NVIDIA under Linux?

glxgears should have a disclaimer box that it is an extremely useless benchmark...

It looks like you missed some threads . Nvidia already fixed problems with those artifacts in their newest beta driver.

Oh I thought that fixed bug was related to compositing. So what other problems do you have, or are you just moaning for the sake of it
