It didn't fix the slow scrolling of the page: http://www.tempus-vivit.net/taverne/thema/935

support for laptop chipset is still lacking even with the new driver. nvidia is incredible! After more than two years, they are still incapable of making something descent. For sure, the next laptop won't contain nvidia chipset.

Thank You Big P, i saw some improvements but it's not perfect... (especially for the kinzeron's website)

Well, wait & see

I'm very frustrating because I installed a mandriva on a D630 (dell) with a poor intel GMA and everything's ok, fast and kind to use

As promised, initial information about general graphics slowdown after hours (day) of active work in gnome:
I didin't notice any slowdown, but I can't tell for sure was it new gnome 2.24 or 177.70 drivers (instead of 177.80 ones). New gnome seems to be way faster than old 2.22. Maybe they fixed some mem leak or so... Anyhow, in case of news I'll share the results

Does tab-switching in metacity compositing is slow with you?

No, actually it's not slow, it might be slower than standard mode, but I just tried and didin't see any slowdown... Usually I'm on standard 2D mode - no composite whatsoever... I need fast and snappy desktop for work
Are You refering to firefox tab-switching?

About slowdown: slowdown seems to be because of 177.80, see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...&postcount=100 .

Works fine for me, and besides, this issue is with firefox. My intel laptop has the same problem (in windows!), however with the fix above scrolling is near perfect.

I am not really having performance issues but I am having issues with getting the resolution to save to X config file. These are the messages I get when I am trying to save the configuration. Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'! I press ok on that then i get this a Save X Configuration box with the option to save the file name /etc/X11/xorg.conf I press save and this happens Unable to remove old X config backup file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'. Can someone tell me what i need to do to save the configuration so that i don't have to reset he resolution everytime i log in

What distribution? Many distributions don't use xorg.conf files.

Ok the issue i had was resolved by simply going into Nvidia Setting Manager and setting the resolution to desired then close it and then going into terminal and type in "sudo nvidia-settings" Then making sure the settings are right and then hit save to x configuration file and ignore the first drop down box and the on the next one hit save and it is saved.

I've been having serious performance issues with KDE4.
Resizing, dragging & switching windows was so painful I was about to give up KDE4 until I just found out that nVidia has released a new driver which addresses these issues.
I am now finding that performance in KDE4 is impressive.

If you're not running the current nVidia 180.06 driver then you should seriously consider installing it before pursuing further config attempts as it may save you a great deal of grief.
