They know about the problem.. it sounds like they may know what's wrong.. no word about when a fix will be coming (I've switched to a $20 Radeon card for now and my full-screen Flash flies )

ditto... I didnt pay good money to purchase something that isn't working the way it should. I see this thread is almost a year old. What the bleep Nvidia fix this already...

GeForce 8600 GT (512 MB) - Intel Core Duo - 2 GB Ram - Ubuntu 8.10

PROBLEM: Firefox tab switching is extremely laggy. Scrolling isn't as smooth. Running Firefox on multiple tabs is extremley annoying.

What version of Nvidia's driver are you using? I had all those problems, but they are gone in the 180.29 release.

Hey zim2dive, what radeon card did you get, was it th 4350? and now that Nvidia has fixed the driver whats the comparison in performance between the 8200 and the radeon.

I've been using 177, its the installed version of Ubuntu. I'm finishing updating Ubuntu since I've re-installed it and I'll use that version and I'll let you know =) Thanks for answering.

I got a 3450.. cheap.. $20 after rebate. Something to tide me thru if/until the 8200 bug was fixed.

I haven't had time to compare and have pulled it (too much pita to switch back and forth in linux).

Testing my 8200 with 180.29..

what kind of CPU % #'s do you guys get with other GPUs?

Playing full-screen, 1920x1080, Firefox, Flash 10.0.15, at thedailyshow.com, full episodes, I see

Firefox bounce from 80-125% (dual core 2.7 GHz Athlon 5200+)
Xorg pretty steady at 30%

I've set Flash to "Low Quality" via the settings.

Now granted, even this was impossible before 180.29.. just wondering if 180.29 really get us 8200 folks up to par where we can convincingly point to Adobe (and not nvidia) as the source of the performance issues.

also tested with http://www.hulu.com/watch/54458/lege...ice#s-p1-so-i0 tried at "hi-res" 480p (again, at full-screen).... lots of what I think folks call "tearing" (a term I never had to use before ) Firefox is ~140%, Xorg near 0.

Looking pretty smooth for KDE 4. Only complaint is laggy window resizing on all QT4 apps. Can this be fixed?

Using Ubuntu 9.04 with nVidia 180.44 binary drivers on GF8400GS. VDPAU, 3D game performance are all good but the only issue is poor 2D performance. Window resize, maximize and scrolling is poor, (both in metacity and compiz). Tried some options mentioned in this page but still same issue.

Anyone found a fix for this issue?
