Can you be more specific about the hardware you're using and the performance problems you're seeing? Please also attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

C2D T6670, GF102M w/512MB ram, 2GB DDR 800 In Ubuntu 9.10 using 190.42 with the nvidia-vdpau ppa from launchpad.net. Compiz enabled with normal option. In all the applications when maximize or minimize is done the cpu usage shoots up and down with max 100%. This is sometimes very apparent with the slow drawing of windows. Tried using the following option specified in the thread http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118088 but no change. Option "PixmapCacheSize" "300000" Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0" Please let me know if you need any more info. |

I was well impressed with Debian testing when I freshly installed it the other day - dragging opaque windows in fluxbox looked so smooth - it just took until I installed the Nvidia drivers to realize where the problem had been. Now I drag a window and can _S:E:E_ it jagged drawing update patterns along the sides of the windows. I'm abandoning nvidia drivers - I don't make much use of 3d stuff.

Hello. I'm having a lot of trouble with NVIDIA Drivers on my Slackware Linux. 3D works perfectly, but 2D is a real mess... Browsing a web with firefox is impossible, all KDE4 effects are really poor and slow. I'm using GF8600M GT on my Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop. All runs with Slackware-Current, KDE4.4.3, latest NVIDIA BETA Drivers (256.25), and 2.6.34 Kernel compiled by myself. I tried to use all avaible drivers on the NVIDIA Website, but there was no change at all. I tried those options in my xorg.conf from the first post, but still no change... I would like to have a 2D performance like on oss "nv" driver, but when i switch on it, i loose the 3D accel, that I need as well. Please help me with that issue.

nvidia is the best at 3d, but at least in kde 4.4.5 and the 195.36.24 driver, nvidia sucks at 2d.

Now, in KDE 4.4.95 I have the same problem with performance, that was described in 2008. Awesome...

KDE 4.4.5 working fine.
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1 -a PixmapCache=1 Put this in ~/.xinitrc, or wherever. The main issue I had was with background-position:static backgrounds on web sites in Firefox (I HATE these designs regardless of the problem I had). Also, incredibly choppy DOM animation. What's more Chrome does not exhibit this problem at all. I have it compiled with GL support but I have the GL accelerated rendering not on as this breaks some websites and makes others appear blurry. Gentoo Kernel 2.6.34-r5 KDE 4.4.5 Settings as explained on the OP |
