Yes, you need nHancer to enable the SSAA modes since the G80. Remember to check the Options->Show Experimental modes too. This will allow you to use more combined modes like 8xSQ (SSAA 2x2 + MSAA 2x = render the scene 4 times bigger with 2x MSAA, and then shrink to screen resolution.)

Well, I won't be checking any of those options since I own ATI, heh. I was just curious if this was a 3rd party tool you guys were using to gain the effect.

Since it is, there may be a similar tool for ATI after the card's been out a little longer. ATI Tray Tools used to have some additional functionality that the Catalyst didn't have (can't remember if this was one of those.)

From what I've seen of ATi Tray Tools, it can't access SS modes on ATi cards because those modes are completely gone in the drivers. Either they were left out or simply unwritten.

nvidia supports SSAA modes in drivers, but they are missing from Nvidia control panel.

can be enabled with nHancer, most likelly missing because it does cause much larger FPS hit then MSAA, and could confuse some customers

Well ATI calls it Adaptive Anti Aliasing, its in the drivers. I just use 4x or 8x. Hate performance drop of SS AA anyways.

The ATI SuperSampling method is not like nVidia's. I have been testing and speaking with Walterman and his FSAA patch for BloodRayne 2 (a game that is really enhanced under SSAA) and it does not have the same quality than nVidia. Screenshots look almost identical between MSAA and SSAA in ATI cards

Yeah, it's a problem for my needs. I'm stuck at 1280x1024 SSAA 2x with the 8800GTX, cause the GTX280 hasn't the power that i need to do the same at 1920x1200

if you do get GTX 280, you could run it at higher then 1280x1024. 1680x1050 for example

Transparency SS = AAA. Its essentally supersample applied to alpha textures. It uses the value of its base multisample to determine the amount of supersampling applied too the alpha textures. 16xQ for instance applies 8x SS to all alpha textures. And 16x CSAA applies 4x SS to all alpha textures. This can be cheap or expensive based on how many alpha textures are being rendered. IN areas with heavy usage of alpha textures. Applying 8x supersampling to all alpha objects can be very fillrate intensive.

The Supersampling modes in Nvidia drivers are full screen filters. So 4xS applies a 1x2 SS filter to the entire screen. Or 16xS provides a 2x2 OGSS to entire screen. Sometimes just using a simple full screen SS along with transparency MS can be faster and provide a more consistent quality experience. You simply have to toy with the settings to achieve your desired results.
