these troubles are heat related that might cause parts of chip to fail.
since the laptop is out, i would take it apart and make sure all dust from inside of it is cleaned out. build up of dust could speed up this process. other then that watch temp.

If the 9800GTX actually releases at $199.99, and EVGA uses that as the basis for stepup, I will upgrade. Otherwise, sticking with what I've got.

Well, if ATI can keep the price within $50 of the GTX280, I know I'll be sold. It does get whipped handily by a gtx280 SLI setup in Crysis (and many other games), but a single 280 loses out in all tests. Plus, in a few days, we'll probably start getting 2x280 vs 2x4870x2 comparisons, and that'll be the real test.

Aren't we forgetting that the numbers shown so far were done with beta driver sets, and that the actual official reviews will be done with final cards(with working power play energy saving),and drivers that actually support it properly.
The only thing that needs improvement gaming wise is crysis since all the other games already showed big improvements over the GTX280,and in at least 2 cases,a single HD4870X2 actually managed to beat 2 GTX 280's in SLI.....Hows that for a kick in the nuts .Get Crysis performance up to the same point that the other games are running and the GTX280 humiliation is complete, and i'm sure that ATI,and their driver writers, are well aware of that fact.... As for me,it's looking rather tempting to go all out and actually get a pair of HD4870X2's(2GB versions),and basically sit on that for the next 2 years, until something 2X faster pops up(actual game performance, not theoretical numbers). |

Nvidia, ATI accused of price cartel, grand jury involved - Prices kept artificially high, claim
"Class actions against Nvidia and ATI – now AMD – have taken a not so pretty turn when a judge read out an email which suggested price fixing was rife in the graphics card market. That follows a class action of 51 different plaintiffs, now combined into one, and across different legal jurisdictions, alleging cartel behaviour not only in graphics chips, but flat panels and CRTs too. According to the filing, Nvidia and ATI conspired to fix the price of graphics processors sold in the US. It’s alleged the defendants timed their introductions in collusion with each other. It’s alleged Nvidia and ATI introduced products at the same time at near identical prices. The filing said a federal grand jury is conducting an investigation into both Nvidia and AMD – which now owns ATI – and has issued subpoenas to both companies. Law firm Boies, Schiller and Flexner has produced charts in its plaintiffs’case which it alleges demonstrates a conspiracy existed. Damages are sought." ![]()
