So according to this:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...73_14_12&num=1 173.14.12 drivers were released today and are also in the NVidia drivers page: http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html It seems that from now on Phoronix will provide the news for NVidia.... :P Release notes: # Added support for GeForce 8600 GS. # Fixed a problem with missing rendering in OpenGL Workstation Overlays. # Fixed a problem with running some SDL applications and virtual terminal switching. # Fixed a potential crash in nvidia-settings when saving to the X configuration file. # Improved error recovery paths in the case of corruption of the commands sent to the GPU. |

I can only post when I have something useful to contribute. I don't have any information about your SLI issue.

Anyway, maybe you can answer the following. I quote your post: "Before anyone asks, this is a bugfix release to address issues in 173.14.09. It does not contain the performance improvement work that's going into the 177.* driver series." Please elaborate more on the performance improvement in 177 drivers because in the last 177 drivers release the only thing mentioned in the release notes was about adding support for another chipset but nothing about performance improvements. I'm particularly interested on SLI performance improvements. |

I posted about it somewhere, but I can't find the post now. Anyway, a number of improvements to the RENDER acceleration on GeForce 8 and higher GPUs are being developed for the 177.* and 180.* driver series. These include support for the various repeat modes, transforms, and convolution filters, as well as acceleration for trapezoid rendering. In addition, resizing windows in KDE 4 hits a number of particularly slow fallbacks that we're working to avoid. The official release notes will mention these improvements when they're ready for prime-time.

First of all: Thanks for the information and finally informing us on how things are going on, Aaron. I do appreciate your work.
I am still happy with your drivers, and I hope you don't let us down. Please keep this http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=116224 out of the new driver, and I'll be happy as soon as it gets released. (And, as I know gentoo devs, there won't be working ebuilds (read: not the ones of kde overlay) for kde4 before that anyway. Fuchs |

A few will, but some of the features require the improved flexibility of the GeForce 8 series. It should all be spelled out clearly in the release notes. We're mainly targeting GeForce 8 and up because that's where the biggest performance bottlenecks are right now.

Hi - I've been looking all over the NVidia website, and other sites and forums, and I can't find any information on whether the current Linux drivers work with the 9800M GT, or, if not, when drivers will be released to work with the card. I'm considering buying a computer with the 9800M GT, and I need to make a decision soon, so I would greatly appreciate any information.
Thanks. |
