You made my point about young gamers not knowing much. Do you honestly at age 22 you know something about raising a child? Shoot you are just a couple of years just out of being a child. I'm not trying to put you down but I remember when I was 22. The amount of information I thought I knew compared to what I actually knew was mind blowing. Looking back I giggle at how dumb I was in my opinions.

Having siblings at a very young age and raising a child are two completely different things. To even bring that up as a point is not in the realm of seriousness.

At the same time you guys who do not have children have zero idea what you are talking about. My son saw me play a minute or for TF2 and he had nightmares for a couple of days. These games are more violent than you know because you are used to them.

The study clearly says why they are more concerned about video games. It is because they feel more comfortable in dealing with the alcohol and porn issue than video games. You are mischaracterizing what the study is saying. Parents should be concerned about all these issues.

The same should be said about almost anything. These days, there are way too many parents thinking that a TV makes up for a good babysitter.

Parents should spend much more time with their childs than they do. People who don't like the idea of giving up some of their time to be with their childs, shouldn't reproduce...

With graphics getting more and more photo realistic you have to wonder how this will effect kids when playing violent games. If a kid gets his hands on the next Soldier of Fortune/Condemned game with updated/improved Crysis graphics there's no way of knowing how this will effect them, when we look back at examples of how games effected us in the past there's no real precedence for this. I'm not sure what age would be suitable for being immersed in photo realistic ultra violent games, we haven't treaded that water yet...

But that brings me to another point I've thought about, I have two young kids and I enjoy gaming, at what age can I share my hobby with them? I'd love to be able to set up a LAN and play Titan Quest, SWAT 4 or Counter Strike with them, but when - age 8, 10, 13, 15, I dunno, thoughts?

Yep .. my friend sometimes plays GoW MP/COOP with his 5-6yrs kid .. though i dont advise it due to violence in that game.

I go by the rating on the box. Sure the rating scheme is messed up but if you research it, you can come up with a good plan.

My son is 9 and he plays WoW maybe once a week, if that. He spends his time running around buying swords from vendors and killing boars. I don't allow him to get involved in the actually server community of WoW.

My son is regulated to just mario games, sonic games and Zelda games and such. I took Twilight Princess away from him because it was too scary for him. He just wasn't ready for it. I also didn't realize it was a T game.

This is what I am talking about. You are so concerned about someone disagreeing with your opinion rather than actually defending your opinion.

Having an opinion is fine but some people can give better informed opinions when they have experience more. I am sure you will be offended by this but it is true. You have a much different opinion on things when you get older.

Lets look at your previous post. You said you had siblings that were younger than you. Ok you can look at them from a different position. That is good. At the same time you were just a kid your self. It is normal. You have a very limited understanding of the world and how it affects children when you are a child. Sorry but 15-19 year olds are not adults and they do not have a wealth of understanding of the world. Shoot, most males do not even become men until they are around 28. Before that they are just playing around with some money in their pocket, a car and getting together with their friends while having very few responsibilities. This is normal in America. I know I was this way. This is why the gaming community is frustrating and why I keep it at arms length. I think the biggest group of gamers are males in their teens to mid twenties. And they have a informed opinion on what the affects of gaming has on young children?

My 6 year old son plays DMC, cod4 and soul calibur on his x360.

Maybe i should take them away and give him a fap mag and bottle of vodka instead. :/
