Well he shouldn't be. It's your call though of course and I wouldn't tell you how to raise your kids.

Anyway, I don't think gamers over react to negative comments about gaming. They over react to how uneducated people generalise games. It's a big issue here in England as so many _retarded_ parents will believe anything they hear on the news. At the moment games = bad... this is a load of toss.

Films = Bad for kids? No
Games = Bad for kids? No

Adult Films = Bad for kids? Yes
Adult Games = Bad for kids? Yes

If a parent is stupid enough to pick up a film or game for their child with an 18 certificate on it, it's their own damn fault. It's there plain as day.

Do I have kids? No, I'm 24 without kids. This does not mean I know "**** about ****" though. I have common sense. When I have a kid, I will not pick this **** up for them.

I have enough commen sense to realise that not all games are the same. Games that are violent and intended and rated for ADULTS just like films are. It's about time the ignorant realise that games are not intended just for kids.

My son is 18...so yea, he plays CoD4. If he was 13, would I let him play? Probably not. Some games should not be played by kids...just like pr0n and alcohol is definitely not for kids.

You guys that are making these little smart comments are really showing how much of an ass you can be.

Well porn and drinking has been around forever, so most people feel comfortable setting limits and knowing the consequences, to a point... plus they probably have friends and family they can talk about regarding the subject, but for games there's no real data or reasonable studies or understanding of how games effect people. For alchohol you can test a group of people for reflexes vs. alchohol consumption and come to conclusions, what can we measured and conclude from gaming?

Does it effect our psyche?? If someone was close to commiting a violent crime, could this give them the extra push?

I game but I have no clue how gaming really effects me, after I play a decent session of counter strike I feel pumped and would like to play some paintball or other form of real life simulated gun play/action. Could excessive playing make me more prone to commit violence, maybe a little... not sure...

I think only each person can really evaluate this for themselves honestly... and if you really love your children, you'd want to be as honest with yourself as possible and still error on the side of caution...

So ya, I can see how parents don't understand video games, or more accurately don't understand the effects of video games on your violent nature... I guess when you throw in games like GTA it would be more than violent nature, it could be effects on how you treat women, other people, other crimes ...etc

I don't know how you'd even begin to test and measure this....

My son is 9 and he plays WoW maybe once a week, if that. He spends his time running around buying swords from vendors and killing boars. I don't allow him to get involved in the actually server community of WoW.

My son is regulated to just mario games, sonic games and Zelda games and such. I took Twilight Princess away from him because it was too scary for him. He just wasn't ready for it. I also didn't realize it was a T game.
wow, im glad someone actually buys into this thing called "responsible parenting".

seriously, i hate the majority of younger parents today. half of them are like "OMG SOMETHING IS GOING TO KILL MY KID!" the other half are like "huh? i have a kid? oh im sorry, i was too busy with myself".

Seriously. Video games are obviously becoming a much larger media, much like movies and music. Hence, they should be regulated in the same way. The parents should check to see what their kids wants to play, make the decision, then act accordingly. None of this "I just bought my child this game, but i didn't realise it was an R 18+ game. How dare you sell this to me, who is clearly of age, so i can give it to my child who asked me for it... I'm going to sue you now." etc...

Too bad, there's really not much you can do about this when it comes to your kids. Kids will always find a way around to play those type of games you don't allow them to play at your house. IMO, the best way is to show your kids the difference between real world and fictional world.

My parents raised me to respect them and myself. I played Mortal Kombat when I was 10 and was shocked to see how violent it was because it does look pretty real at that time. But I liked it a lot. I didn't go madman and try to copy certain moves on someone's else. I knew Moral Kombat was just a game. Too bad, not a lot of kids do know that. If you're a good parent, involving them in your life and talk to them about different issues like this, then your kids will know for themselves and will be all right.

I don't always agree to keep my kids from certain games, because some games can be good learning experiences. My parents gave me a lot of freedom when I was young... and I respected my freedom, my privilege and never took it for grant. Of course, it's not all same for everyone. That's my opinion.

How the hell do parents not know how to limit video game play...My mom still has never used a computer but when I was young she did a great job of keeping things in moderation.
