The study clearly says why they are more concerned about video games. It is because they feel more comfortable in dealing with the alcohol and porn issue than video games. You are mischaracterizing what the study is saying. Parents should be concerned about all these issues.
My 5 year old kid plays GTA...
But he knows the difference between reality and games. He wouldnt hurt a fly
He cries when he thinks our cat is hurt. Games dont hurt kids, parents hurt kids

I'm with CaptUDawg on this 100%, games do affect children, just as they affect adults. I know, they are a powerful medium. Very powerful. What is needed is firm ratings, strict retail outlets and better educated parents and leaders. Once we have proper ratings and the ability to enforce them at a retail level, we can relax the banning of games. With better education, parents can take a greater role in bringing up their children, instead of letting the Government decide watch their kids can and can't do.

Until then, I'm going to continue to import. As all other mature gamers in AU should do, this will put the pinch on local retailers, which in turn will put the pinch on the government to pull their finger out and look at some proper ratings.

Yeah because I am a serial killer now since I played violent games and watched violent movies since I was 7 years old.

Movies is a movie and game is a game NOT REALITY. And if your kid doesnt know the difference between fiction and reality then you have bigger problems than games.

And its mostly countries outside europe that bitch all the time. OH NOES MY 15 year old son watches porn. Well no **** he is ****ing 15 years old.

Not games fault for letting your son see the content. There is a rating. Its upto the parents to follow these ratings and monitor the activity of the kids. There is far more worse content out there in the world. Parents just don't want to take the responsibility.

Yes Gaming has an effect on a child's mind, and so does TV, so does Movies, and the world outside...but to single out gaming as the reason for the end of the world is dumb. Why on earth would parents even let there kids have a computer with access to have these games installed...how IS IT the developers fault.

There is a lot of software out there that can help in keeping your child in control. I think Vista has something interesting with its rating control thing, and that would be something that i hope the next os does have. Something in built into the OS, and have your kids with minimal control user access, and then monitor there logs, if you think they are upto no good...again the responsibility still comes down to the parents.

Yes, yes it is. Worst thing is the ratings aren't 'official' which means kids can actually buy a MA15 game and it's basically upto the store if they sell it. One of the reasons they ban games, as they know the ratings don't do ****, unlike the movie and madazine ratings which are enforceable.

Yeah, that sounds about right, you're too young to be playing that game...
