Default Graphics Exception on GPC, 3D-C MEMLAYOUT Violation. Coordinates

Hi guys,

haven't been here for a long time

now I'm running 346.47 on a GTX760 Phantom,

the following error message concerns me, since this is kind of a workstation PC with ECC RAM,

could this result in memory corruption or what causes this error message ?

Many thanks in advance !

Default Re: Graphics Exception on GPC, 3D-C MEMLAYOUT Violation. Coordinates

There appears to be a connection between those error messages and when compiz(-fusion)

either crashes or the GPU stalls for several seconds:

Default Re: Graphics Exception on GPC, 3D-C MEMLAYOUT Violation. Coordinates

This doesn't seem to happen with xfwm4 or kwin (compositing running)

only compiz-fusion triggered this for now

compiz-fusion might be old but it's still the smoothest & fastest (lightweight ?) compositing manager I grew to highly cherish for my needs (also due to its invert & contrast changing capabilities, makes looking at pictures with high dark/white differences much easier to spot details - e.g. x-rays)

pity that it (or the nvidia proprietary module ?) causes those issues now

In the past I had to move from kwin to compiz-fusion because the effect "Dim Inactive" would constantly keep the gpu busy when e.g. code was scrolling during a compilation

it also happens with compiz 0.9.12.1, mainly seems to be triggered by the "Static Application Switcher" or "Application Switcher"

that higher latency with kwin is unbearable

Default Re: Graphics Exception on GPC, 3D-C MEMLAYOUT Violation. Coordinates

well, it's sad that kwin or xorg.conf has to be modified to get an "instant" feeling on kwin - but the latency fortunately - now is gone

xorg.conf

add to

Code:
Section "Device"
#	Option "TripleBuffer" "1"
Option "RegistryDwords" "OGL_MaxFramesAllowed=0x0"
EndSection
when you're running Gentoo

set the following environment variable in

/etc/profile.d/kwin.sh

Code:
export __GL_YIELD="USLEEP"

this makes sure that there's no tearing (if this wasn't already incorporated into kwin) and that there are no blurry additional frames

Well, some prefer a "smooth", dreamy approach to compositing - I prefer an instant low-latency approach

Thanks nvidia for providing those options in the first place, it appears that your linux drivers have improved quite a lot since I used them the last time (having been on nouveau most of the time)

A PowerMizer setting to have a faster downclocking of the gpu would be nice though

now the behavior more resembles the conservative cpu governor - well at least in some situations it takes somewhat too long to downclock
