I've been reading the forums for a while now and noticed more then handful of people are experiencing heat issue with GTX 280. I just got my card yesterday, it's a EVGA OC, I was so excited, until I ran Furmark. Even though the fan was at 100%, temp rose to 105c with major artifacts on the graphics. Then I tried Mass effect, Grid, Crysis, Assasin's Creed, load temp was a little better at 85-90 but I get some artifacts and tears during gameplay. Is there something wrong with my card, the graphics tears are very noticeable....it doesn't seem like a common problem on this forum. Any suggestion, should I request to RMA this back to EVGA? My case has very cool cooling, with 4 fans on the side panel and 2 fans to the back so I don't think ambient temp is the issue.

It IS a very common problem on this forum. There is a thread stickied with people experiencing the same issues as you. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=114925
My first BFG 280 GTX OC had the same issue, I exchanged it and my 2nd card which was an EVGA was fine. Your card is bad I would RMA it or exchange it if you can. Although Furmark heats it up quicker than most other games and apps. Other games and stuff will crash, and since you are getting artifacts I would do definitely RMA or exchange it. Under no circumstances regardless of the benchmark/game being run should a card overheat to the threshold temperature and throttle. |

It's a dud, if it goes to 105c and artifacts as well, you'll have to return it.
Another eVGA card. From what I've seen so far, only eVGA and BFG card users have reported these issues... Anyone with a brand other than these that has the same problem?

My sample runs between 80 to 85 in Crysis and AoC but in Furmark, it hits 104 to 105. However, there are no visible problems with it.
Also, my case is well cooled and I'm not overclocking. Assuming no problems, is it expected for it to hit 105 in Furmark? |

yeah I emailed EVGA and they gave me the standard repsonse of cranking up the fan ad see if the issue persist. Told them already tried that and still same thing, will have to wait to hear back. I do agree, $600 and it overheats like a nervous teen on prom night
The artifact is pretty bad too, I think my Assassin's creed crashed twice because of that.... |

I would RMA it - Furmark is a perfectly reasonable application and if the card can't handle it without overheating then it is deffective..

Well, if it reaches 105c during Furmark it's no longer potentially a problem, there is a problem... It should max out at around 85-90c. Anything above that indicates a faulty chip (overheating bug or whatever causes it, bad shim contact, faulty sensor, whatever...).
