Default anti-aliased text rendering takes slow path with 177.68 / 7600 Go

In some situations, Xorg utilises 100% cpu when scrolling through
kde 4.1 rendered text-content (e.g. kmail, webpages rendered by konqueror).
This is with an nvidia geforce 7600 Go, 177.68 beta drivers, Xorg 7.3, xserver 1.4
on kde 4.1, IPP=2, GC=1.

CPU time is mostly spent in MMX compositing, so apparently no hardware acceleration is
used for font rendering (see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167739).

Could you please comment if this is a driver issue (maybe the regression discussed in
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118379 "gtkperf Add Text bottleneck"), and if so, when this will be fixed?

Default Re: anti-aliased text rendering takes slow path with 177.68 / 7600 Go

I would say that this speed regression regarding text also seems to occur with my 8600m. In previous driver releases 173.* text rendering wasn't as slow. this occurs primarily on pages with plenty of text. This is only in konqueror and other kde4 apps like konsole. Gtk apps and firefox are fine ...
