I wanna know which games are there that you wish were done in first person rather than third person? You can't be serious about Tomb Raider because that game would be unplayable in first-person. The whole point is she's supposed to acrobatic and I wouldn't like flipping and rolling and stuff in first-person becuase I'd be the first to vom.

Okay I see your point about the flipping and acrobatic, that would make me barf in 1st person too.... and I guess for Splinter Cell although I haven't actually played that game so I'd have to take your word for it...

...But after looking at the poll now and seeing that not one person to this point has selected 3rd person, it really makes me wonder why they would make Mass Effect in 3rd person only, same with GTA games?? Man at least give us an option.... same goes for Mafia, I'd much, much rather have 1st person...

Maybe we didn't select it because it is restricted by the "over the shoulder" addendum? Either way, the poll is too stupid to respond to IMO.

Or more likely it depends on the type of game as most of us have said in the thread, don't draw conclusions from a poll that is flawed. (no offense)

OK, so I've not played Mass Effect extensively, but I don't see the game being any better by making it FP. I think it would work fine in FP as well (so I think there should at least be the option) but I always get the impression that when you need to control a team then TP is the way developers like to show the game.

Also, again I've not played the latest GTA too much, but even more so than previous GTA games the combat is catered to being TP because of the cover system. If they made the game FP the whole combat system would have to have been overhauled and more importantly the enemy AI would've needed a lot more doing to it because they wouldn't last long if it was played like a standard FPS.

Either. Depends on the game.

Whole-heartily agree!

Driving games, I switch between first person (up close, see only road) and third person (above/behind trunk/roof view)

games like MGS4 give you options between 1st and third but most of the time in that game third feels better. Mainly in games with big character development you want 3rd person view.

Sooo how would you define all the 3rd person games where you are behind the dude but not like Diablo? So all view perspec games like GTA3 or 4, Mafia, Mass Effect, Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell ...etc ... not a rhetorical question, I'm not sure... 3rd person behind avatar view?

I like both. 3rd person is good to see the character if it's done right. Tombraider Legend, Anniversary, Mass Effect, Bloodrayne 2, KOTOR 1 & 2 are good examples.
