My gf likes 'Friends' and her collections is almost complete but I cant stand the terrible picture quality.
Would the image quality from the NTSC format DVD's be better than PAL as its the original format and hasn't been converted?(American shows look blurry over on TV here due to that but especially 'Friends').

It is likely the way they converted the show to pal that does it. Both standards are similar http://www.ihffilm.com/videostandard.html with PAL having a slightly higher resolution but lower frame rate.
It would really depend on your dvd player to how it works out. |

I just think the original recordings are bad. Other US shows make it over and don't look anything like as blurry as early Friends episodes do. Also the episodes from the later seasons look much better so again makes me think its just down to the original quality being poor.

We have a Friends box set on dvd and yea it does look pretty crappy. It is NTSC

Friends is crap. PAL is better as it's higher res.
