My GTX280 won't boot

if it stutters and overheats over 100*C then it's one of the early ones that are damaged... get it replaced... if you're returning it to a local store ask if they got any recent shipments in from the manufacturer as the newer models dont have this problem... i had a BFG GTX 280 OC which would stutter and overheat to 105*C and it wasnt even overclocked although it's the OC model... so i returned it to the store but the only cards they had were the OC2 but they were at least new shipments from the manufacturer... ended up paying an extra $35 for it but it was worth it since this one does not go above 86-87*C or so and is properly overclocked

Already fixed my problem.

Ordered a 4870x2. I really want to play Clear Sky in full glory and the 280 isn't going to cut it it seems. Ordered a Corsair 750TX too btw.

Returning 280 for a refund. Had the 280 been flawless upon receipt, I probably would of kept it.

bad choice... it seems the 4870x2 and the software for it has tons of bugs and issues... dont forget the microstuttering

I know some of the reports of failing 280s on this forum are probably due to user error (not speaking of yourself, Destroy), but this is getting ridiculous. When is Nvidia going to wake up and start QC'ng their high-end? The failure rate on these seems to be much higher than it should be.

But then again, I guess it doesn't matter if your fanbase keeps coming back for more with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th RMAs. It's like some around here have a masochistic personality or think that's the way it's supposed to be.

For the record, I think the 260 is a fine card as there seem to be no issues with those. Haven't seen a single complaint out of it yet.

What "bugs" are you speaking of? I haven't seen any.

And microstuttering has become the most overhyped terminology in the history of graphics performance. Crossfire performs great and is just as smooth as a single card in every game I have tested thus far.

4870x2 is starting to look like it will be my choice. Now that I have my money back from returning my toaster....errr.... GTX280 I think I may have to try one out... maybe even get a new mobo and try 2 out

Aside from the usual driver errors that always occur with new hardware, well, I see nothing in that thread. There are two who seem to be experiencing enough problems to return their cards, but the rest of the group are experiencing maybe one or two issues that are to be expected.

Since when? 8-series? This problem has been greatly reduced this gen due to the higher bandwidth between GPUs. The X2 has a 2.0 PCI-E bridge chip on the same PCB as the 2 GPUs.

Maybe bad choice but I guess I felt that since I have to go through the hassle of waiting, shipping and returns, I might as well just get a different brand card.

I want to see and test for myself how bad or good this 4870x2 is. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I can always go back again later to 280 but I'm hoping if I need to, a GTX290OCx2 will be out or something by then.

I wish you good luck and have no idea why somebody would say bad choice, especially after you said that you already placed the order.

Plus who is this guy with GTX 280 avatar and none experience with HD 4870 x2 telling you that you made a bad choice.
I guess this means everybody who bought HD 4870 x2 made a bad choice.

It's exactly the same if i would say, you made bad choice getting the GTX 280 and I sure don't think so. I think it was just bad luck, not many off the overheating 280s should be still around provided quality control improved.
