Default InitialPixmapPlacement with a 7800GTX

On a 7800GTX InitialPixmapPlacement=2 is a lot slower and more CPU intensive than InitialPixmapPlacement=1. I did the below test on 177.70 drivers with a Compiz desktop.

x11perf -rgb10text with IPP=1:

7200000 reps @ 0.0007 msec (1350000.0/sec): Char in 80-char rgb line (Charter 10)

x11perf -rgb10text with IPP=2:

640000 reps @ 0.0080 msec (125000.0/sec): Char in 80-char rgb line (Charter 10)

Question, what do the different IPP modes do and what modes should be used on what GPU?
