Default COD4 Draw Distance

I have this problem when I get closer to any object or player, they just seem better when I get closer but it doesn't feel right! Any solution to increase the quality of objects even when they are away?

Another question, is there an option to reduce the grass?

So you want to increase the level of detail in far away objects but decrease the amount of grass which would take away from the overall detail? Why not go for it all?

Are you talking LODing?

In games, you normally have a few LODs (levels of detail) of models so their poly count can be reduced, and their textures are MIP'd down for performance reasons. The only time you wouldn't do this, or as much, is if you're running into memory issues (i.e.-PS3 and some of its games, IIRC).

Objects get crisper when I get closer to them, this is my problem. I am not standing that far for the object to lose detail just like the attached SS only one step forward makes that tank look better! Take a look at the marked circle.

Probably... So, any way to fix this? It also happens in TF2.

There may be config file tweaks (like you can in Crysis), just check around forums dedicated to the game you want to reduce LODing, or perhaps check Tweakguides and see if the game you're wanting to tweak is there, and has LOD tweaks.

It's there for performance reasons, so if you change it, you'll lose performance (in most cases).

Sometimes a game studio will not have time to work on LODs a lot, so they'll be done quickly, so sometimes they don't maintain the silhouette or main features of the model, so it is more apparent.

Thanks for the much appreciated help Spoudazo. Is it reduce or increase? Increase feels right when I am asking for better quality.

Can anyone link me to a specific config for COD4?

Edit: BTW, grass blocks my view sometimes.

I googled and found two LOD commands but they just don't seem to affect this issue and they just make performance worse at like -300.

You're wanting to "increase" the distance at which a model/mesh LODs/MIPs down.

Well, I gave the 2 commands more testing and it actually works! But performance is not satisfying! Back to default and ugly objects...

Edit: Well one of the commands solved my problem at its max value with no noticeable hit.

r_lodBiasRigid -1000

The other one was r_lodBiasSkinned.
