I believe we have identified the cause of this bug. A fix will be released in a future driver. At this point, we don't plan on incorporating the fix into the 195.* driver series, but rather we'll include it in a later series. Please see the driver changelog which will mention this fix.

I am having the exact same problem with FX 5200, using driver 173.14.25.
if I turn off agp by doing NvAGP 0, then XvMC works, but performance suffers and I get CPU spikes. Any chance you can backport the fix to the legacy drivers? |

paulpach01, Looking at the code, I can believe this bug also exists in 173.*. I'll see if I can track down HW to reproduce this...
For completeness, can you also attach an nvidia-bug-report; see forum stickies for how to generate this. Thanks. |

Please note that even though the xorg.conf says NvAGP 2, I blacklisted the agpgart module so agp ends up being disabled:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status Status: Disabled AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file for additional information on this problem. It is the same with NvAGP 0 Thank you for looking into it. |

paulpach01, I managed to repro your problem, and validate that the fix from 256.* solves it in 173.14.* too. Unfortunately, I don't know when we'll be making another release from 173.14.*, but hopefully the fix will be included when we do. Thanks for the report.

Thank you very much for looking into it. It is impressive that you were able to reproduce, figure out and fix the issue so fast.
Looking forward for the next release. Could I have a beta version? I could validate whether it fixes the problem. |

I am having somewhat similar trouble with XvMC.
I have two systems, one with a GeForce 7100 GS and the other with a 6600GT. Both are running Mythbuntu 10.04 32bit. I use MythTV .23.1 and have XvMC working but it runs slowly causing video stuttering which didn't happen when I ran Mythbuntu 9.04. I have tried multiple drivers and here is a list of what happened with each one: 256.44 from website: XvMC doesn't work 256.35 Avenard package: XvMC doesn't work 195.36.31 Avenard package: XvMC works but too slow 190.53 Avenard package: XvMC works but too slow |

As for XvMC not working in the 256 driver. I have attached the bug report, mplayer log, and mythfrontend log.
I used the 256.44 driver downloaded from the Nvidia website to produce these logs. Mplayer doens't seem to require the XvMCConfig file but mythfrontend looks for it in /etc/XvMCConfig so I placed it there and put "/usr/lib/libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1" in it. Thanks in advance! |

Watto, Can you confirm whether your card is AGP or PCI-Express? I think PCI-E from your logs, but want to make sure...

Watto, we have identified the regression which broke XvMC functionality in 256.*. It will be fixed in a future driver release. Sorry.
