Default video game industry need high resolution display.

we can't improved texture quality now. it's useless.
with 1600x1050 pixel on 22 inch , you haven't enough precision. amha...

i compared 1400x1050 & 1600x1200 on 19.8" viewable (22" CRT IBM trinitron) against 2048x1536 (80Hz) . and the dice has rolled: we still need higher resolution display. going to 2048 make few thing.
your eye can adpat itself and you are able to see thing smaller than what you have with 0.28 dot pitch . 1400x1050 is FAR inferior in my eye than 2048. (on 19.8" , it's about equal to what you have on 22" wide 1600x1050)

conclusion ? we need 0.22 dot pitch display. until we have that, increase texture quality is useless. let alone photorealistic lighting, wich rasterization can give an answer.

my 2 cents

So spend more money in R&D for a tiny market that will not net them much of an increase in profits... yeah I dout the LCD Manufacturers will rush out to fill your needs.

What's the current dot pitch of a 1920x1200 display?

I think this guy is saying that until we have displays with better (lower) dot pitch, increase in texture sizes (such as 2048x2048 texture size) will be useless since the differences won't be noticeable on our displays versus lower texture sizes.

Im getting a LaCie Electron 22 Blue IV 22" 0.24mm dot pitch CRT, Apparently it smells like burning insects.

The listed resolutions had better be reported otherwise i'm screwed.

I don't think displays are holding us back, rather it being game engine capabilities and CPU performance. I mean look at HL2 FFCM8 and many Crysis Mods. They use really high resolution textures (2048x2048) which are noticably better then stock high settings in the games.

crysis highest detail texture are same than riddick . (2005) the only difference is the apply of multiple texture. up to 4 .
can you imagine a 30" display with 4000x2200 ? THAT is photorealistic.

720p make me laugh

ps: i need a 2nd HD4850 :/. 4850 is dying with such high res.
