Notebook & GeForce 8400M G

Hi everyone!

I just installed Debian 4.0 on my new Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E 8410 using NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G chipset.

After installing the new driver (100.XXX), X is now able to detect the screen. But unfortunately the screen keeps black and kinda "freezes" (well, just nothing else is done...).

How can I LinuX bring to start Gnome/KDE/Xface/... ???

I'd love to use my machine under LinuX, not under the legal virus

Still I cannot find any solutions for my problem.
I'm useing Debian 4.0 (kernel: 2.6.18-4-686).

It's kinda confusing. Even "RescueCD" doesn't work on this machine.

This notebook has just been released on market!!!

EDIT: I even tried idle=poll - didn't work. And probably I have no chance to get my nvidia-bug-report.log from my notebook to my PC in order to post it to this thread. arrrgh!

hmm, you have a Santa Rosa notebook, right? Then Debian 4.0 with 2.6.18 is too old...

If you're stuck, because your screen "goes black" before you can do something: try to boot with "single" and revert the driver in xorg.conf
back to "vesa" or "nv" until you have a way to ssh the laptop...

@AaronP: Finally, I was able to get X.org rudimentary to work with chunkey's method. But it is still annoying. Shall I download a new kernel? Would this fix at least a bit this issue??
As you wanted here's nvidia-bug-report. Users like me are really annoying...

I'm afraid it's a BIOS Bug.

But please, generate another nvidia-bug-report.log:
1. log in from another PC to your laptop
2. set the "nvidia" driver in xorg.conf...
3. Start X again...
(now on the remote pc:) run nvidia-bug-report.sh, and revert back to the vesa driver...
4. restart your laptop and post the new nvidia-bug-report.log

Well, would it be the same if I did it on the labtop and switch to antother virtual console??
Otherwise it might become difficult to connect the two PCs...

I flashed the BIOS with the following version:

No other version is available.
