Question about direct download from EA: Do they give you an installable set of files to be backed up and reinstalled if need be? They want to clip me $6 for "extended" download service for 2 years. Normal purchase you can redownload for 6 months.

The downloaded files get saved to an EA cache, in \ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache. You can back up the files in here and put them back in if you need to, the downloader see it and doesn't redownload. Much backing up the Steam cache.

These files are encrypted however, and cannot be used to install from. You have to start the install from the EA Downloader.

I recommend backing this up constantly. Right after a download in fact. EVERY time you upgrade the downloader it clears this cache file! So keep it backed up!

So sounds like they hope you lose your copy rather then make it easy backup the software you download :-( If its like the Sims once its installed you can't just backup/restore the installed software because of the crap in the registry.

I've been copying the "Steam" folder raw and just reinstalling the client and everything has been fine.

Default Re: Spore? Where's yours?

Was called that it arrived yesterday so I picked this up on my way home last night. Its a pretty sweet light hearted game. Maybe not quite as epic as I thought it would be, but interesting none the less.

Anyone with some tips on befriending creatures in the creature phase? It seems not all of my friends are capable of dancing/posing and this really hurts my chances with alot of non singing species. Also one would thing your supposed to match what you do with what the other guys does (sing/dance/pose/ ect) but for most of the time that yields less points, and just plain singing wins em over.

Also any meat eaters find many alternatives to finding food besides making an enemy out of one of the local natives? seems like meat ceased to be a scattered source of nourishment short after creature phase, makes me think herbivores have a leg up in the game. It also really limits your ability to explore when you need to haul back to feeding grounds after a short trip.

Being a carnivore means you have to eat other critters. I tend to just kill what I need to survive. To befriend others you need better parts. The stronger an ally the more higher level parts you need. It's all about mixing and matching to get the most efficient combo possible.

Has anyone come across the Epic Critters? I've been pwned many a time trying to loot their graveyards. ::

The single cell stage doesnt go for very long, but it really opens up in the space phase, very complex and very fun

damn aliens keep attacking my homeworld whenever i take off for a few minutes.

I'ts handy to have alliances too.

I decided enough micky mouse bs and slaughtered everyone... running as a pack of my own instead of mixing creatures. I rarly found anyone to ally with that was my level that I could successfully convince.

I only saw the epic/one of a kind creatures on the very last (and brief) leg of my creature journey. I befriended 2 (was attacked right after, apparently he was pissing off a local nest ) and there was this one 1000hp dino who kept one shotting one of my pack members... bastard.

I befriended the first tribe in tribe mode but decided to kill everyone else. muahaha. Buncha free loading hippies they were too... they made no effort to expand or enlarge their little tribe..

There a Unique Rogue Creatures. Then there are EPIC Creatures. You'll know an Epic when you see one. They cannot be befriended, they cannot be killed in the Creature stage. There is no mistaking them. You'll often hear them before you see them.

The Rogue/Unique Creatures are cool. If you befriend them they will be pets in the tribal stage and help defend your camp, babies and food from predators. ::
