Exclamation [177.70] Artifacts in window title bars

Hi,

I have artifacts in window title bars in KDE 3. When a window is sticked to the magnetic top edge, the title bar gets little black rectangles, especially when they are moved along this top edge. See attachment picture.
This occurs in 177.68 and 177.70. My card is a 7600GT AGP. lspci returns 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 7600 GT (rev a2).

Has anyone noticed this ?

Am I the only one with this problem?

Ok, I have same card as you do - I'm using now KDE4.1 with effects and didn't have such problems.
A couple days ago I logged into KDE3, using IPP2 and haven't got such problems (even with IPP1).
Post nvidia-bugreport, follow the sticky thread about problems.

maybe that is a famous problem, if it is so you have to switch to the 169.04 driver (it is the last working without artifacts) or to wait for nvidia (however I think they will never repair this, because if I understood well it should not interest new cards)

The strange thing is that this does only appear when I start X (and KDE3) for the first time. If I restart X, if I log out and log again then the problem disappears. Therefore logging in to KDE4 then to KDE3 would not reveal this problem.

Please find attached the log report.

I have this problem when running kde 4.1 or firefox in Gnome, but the artifacts is not the vertical bars, they are colored short lines (several pixels)

You can get the screenshot here http://picasaweb.google.com/younker....51860156350418

I believe that I get something similar/related:

for me both sides of the window-decoration (emerald) get cut off so that it isn't round anymore and somewhat more narrow than the rest of the application window

this is with an 7600GT on PCIe

options enabled are:

Code:
    Option "TripleBuffer" "false"
Option "RenderAccel" "true" # commented out
# Option "RandRRotation" "true"
    Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
    Option "OnDemandVBlankInterrupts" "True"
    Option "NvAGP" "0"
    Option "DamageEvents" "1"
Option "BackingStore" "True" # disable for kde4
    Option "InitialPixmapPlacement" "2"
    Option "PixmapCacheSize" "5000000"
    # If you use render events, be sure to boot with the idle=poll option
    Option "UseEvents" "False"
    Option "DPMS" "TRUE"
    Option "NoLogo" "1"
    Option "AllowIndirectPixmaps" "false"
    Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0"
# Workaround for ugly Qt bugs with recent nvidia drivers and compiz
# Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "true"
# Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "1"
    Option "Coolbits" "1"

I also get corruptions on avant-window-navigator: the icons (sometimes all, sometimes only a few) aren't displayed correctly, they're shown like the negative of themselves / only the border with inverted colors are shown

I'll update this post as I see it again to describe it in more detail ...

edit:

the problem with avant-window-navigator isn't related to the issue with the window title bars (window decoration), it's triggered by openoffice: if the window of openoffice is open, awn goes crazy
