Do you notice any depth of field blurring even if you turn it off? I noticed this on my system. I don't know if it'd kill performance for you or not, but it seems odd that it doesn't disable properly.

Also, what resolution are you playing at? You should also update your signature with your latest specs.

Well I was playing at 1280 * 1024 with 2*aa.

Now running at 1680*1050 with 16*af and 4*aa

This is really strange its now not stuttering.... this has to be one of the strangest performance issues I have ever encountered, it's my first ATI card as it was a good price, I think it maybe my last, the drivers and stuttering issues are just strange to say the least.

I still get the odd low frame rate but its not stuttering when it does go low which is acceptable because I realise after someone pointed out that i'm limited by my CPU and the game doesn't utilize muti core, hence 100& load on one core and 0 on the other with 30-50% GPU load.

As for DOF it makes no difference to frame rate, only big performance hit was the draw distance, which makes sence. Also on the witcher forums they were saying DOF settings only apply to cut scenes not the actual game, not sure if that is correct. I found out though that after a cut scene the game can get blurry, if you quick save then load it goes. Although you can use the option 'use alternate pixel shader' in your graphics cards control panel.

Not had this much trouble from a game in a long, long time.

Maybe my PC is punishing for sticking ati hardware in there I don't know, one things for certain I will be getting a new motherboard, cpu and ram in a couple of weeks and will make sure the multi core CPU I get will have a load of cache and high clock speeds for games that aren't optimised so at least if only one core is being used I will still get decent perfomance..... phew!

Well I think my save game problem fixed itself.

I played the game a little longer last night and made a few new saves and today I deleted every save (except for my newest one) in windows and it appears to be fine. I haven't lost anything. I restored the autosaves and it still seems fine. All I can think is that I either had a bad autosave (which was overwritten recently) or a couple of bad saves somewhere that were effecting my game when some were deleted. I don't know why or how this would happen but I'm glad to have my load screen pop up nice and fast again.

I'll probably keep them in separate folder for now, just in case I have another problem but so far so good.

If anyone deletes any save files in Windows remember to check your game over to make sure you haven't lost anything. I also recommend moving your saves to another folder rather than deleting them, unless you're running real low on hard drive space.

Default Re: The Witcher: Enhanced Edition coming Sept. 16th!

I just ran into some strange problems with "events" related to Raymond being screwed up. The game is working fine, it just seems like the things that trigger the Raymond-related updates are easy to do out of order. If you do a lot of things not related to him and then finally do one thing related to him you end up with a situation where you walk in and out of his office 3 times in a row and the game acts like several days have passed each time.

I had this happen with the original game and I hoped that they fixed it, but apparently they didn't. The game is progressing alright, it just sort of broke the immersion for a bit.

Specifics (spoilers):
He told me to do something that I had already done, and my journal said I had to talk to him about it. He wouldn't say anything new, so I stepped out of his house, stepped back in and he was being attacked, though obviously no one came in the front door past me. After this, he said he had to go away for a while to lay low, and he left the house. I stepped out the door and a kid came and told me that Raymond sent him and wanted me to come to his house. So I turned around, went back into the house and there he was, acting like he'd been gone for some time.

I also had some similar issues with Shani when I had to set up the autopsy.

Nothing major, just minor annoyances in an otherwise awesome game.

I have encountred a few strange bugs too.

Probably one of the most annoying things I done which I admit was my own fault was use the demo saves with the standard version, played for 10 hours then as I started the 2nd Act as soon as the sword dropped the game crashed.

They added a load of stuff though to the beginning which gave me a good reason to play again.

Default Re: The Witcher: Enhanced Edition coming Sept. 16th!

Is there a way to modify the draw distance manually, I would like to bump the frame rate up a little but setting visibilty to medium really makes the game a little ugly.

If you goto:
HKCU/Software/CD Projekt Red/Witcher/Settings

you will see the games config, its the 'charactervisibility' key that adjusts draw distance, 0=Near 1=Medium 2=Far

I would like to set it to 1.8 or somthing like that but it doesn't seem to affect the game at all.
Anyone got any suggestions on that one? Apart from an upgrade

Those settings probably only respond to a few whole numbers. Most games that don't have many tweaks are like this.

Never heard of it? Never heard of perhaps the biggest selling RPG in recent times? I hope that MMORPG you have been playing is Wolf Quest.

LOL

It's great, not all of it makes the translation, but some of it does, and the rest is due to the bad translation.
