In addition to resolution, you're CPU limited. 3.0 GHz isn't nearly enough to justify a 280 SLI setup. You're also somewhat limited by having only 2 GB of RAM.

For example: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3183&p=4 Notice how only Crysis benefits from the higher CPU with 3 X 8800U? I'm also unaware of many 4GB vs 2GB advantages, just a few games that I've seen. All that said- I don't know how much a second GTX280 is "needed" at 19X12- should run everything at that res 4X16X fine, so what you'd be getting is higher AA and higher minimums in some games.

Depends on the game and application, Crysis would certainly benefit from a second GPU.

That is as high of a resolution as the 28" monitor will go.I would have to say no too.I in the same situation,I was planning on buying two GTX280 and going SLI but running SLI and looking at the reviews you gain nothing and in a lot of games you actually lose frame rate .You need a 4gig CPU or higher and a resolution of 2560x1600 for it to be worth it.I just game at 1920x1200 and just have a Q6600 that I run at 3.2gigs and I ran a few games at that resolution with my CPU and in a lot of games it was slower with SLI enable because I don't have enough CPU power and I can't game no higher then 1920x1200 on my Dell 2405.In some games I only got 10 to 20 FPS extra ,and I don't count Crysis because even with two GTX280 with very high settings it is still a disapointment.Ther is one or two games that it makes a difference ,but not really worth it.IMO
