How do I locate and install the correct kernel-source, kernel-headers, or kernel-devel package on slax 6.0.7 or in which file and directory should that information appear, so the kernel module for my graphic driver could be run with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run? The kernel version of slax 6.0.7 is using 2.6.24.5.
Or is there a more simple way to go around the problem without the files for kernel-source, kernel-headers, or kernel-devel package? The output of the log file for the installer is: nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' creation time: Thu Sep 11 21:42:31 2008 installer version: 1.0.7 option status: license pre-accepted : false update : false force update : false expert : false uninstall : false driver info : false precompiled interfaces : true no ncurses color : false query latest version : false OpenGL header files : true no questions : false silent : false no recursion : false no backup : false kernel module only : false sanity : false add this kernel : false no runlevel check : false no network : false no ABI note : false no RPMs : false no kernel module : false force SELinux : default no X server check : false no cc version check : false force tls : (not specified) X install prefix : (not specified) X library install path : (not specified) X module install path : (not specified) OpenGL install prefix : (not specified) OpenGL install libdir : (not specified) utility install prefix : (not specified) utility install libdir : (not specified) doc install prefix : (not specified) kernel name : (not specified) kernel include path : (not specified) kernel source path : (not specified) kernel output path : (not specified) kernel install path : (not specified) proc mount point : /proc ui : (not specified) tmpdir : /tmp ftp mirror : ftp://download.nvidia.com RPM file list : (not specified) Unable to map destination file '/tmp/nv-bol25m' for copying (No such device) Using built-in stream user interface -> License accepted. -> Installing NVIDIA driver version 173.14.12. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) -> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel. -> Performing CC sanity check with CC="cc". -> Performing CC version check with CC="cc". -> Kernel source path: '/lib/modules/2.6.24.5/source' -> Kernel output path: '/lib/modules/2.6.24.5/build' -> Performing rivafb check. -> Performing nvidiafb check. -> Performing Xen check. ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. I do not include a copy of an nvidia-bug-report.log file as the problem arises outside the X environment when trying to install the graphic driver (In addition for me the startx -- -logverbose 6 command does not work anyway). |

I was not able to install Nvidia under Slax 6.0.7 or under minime2007. However, I did under mepis 8.0 beta:
http://mepislovers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17650 Funny that I did not have any help in the Nvidia forum. I hope this helps for the other users. ![]() |
