Default xorg-server 1.5.0/177.70 - xvideo tearing

Hi,

I just updated to xorg-server 1.5.0 since it hit the testing branch in gentoo. However, now when I'm watching a movie (in mplayer) with xv output, I'm getting tearing. I was first using dual monitors and wasn't sure if it was a sync to vblank problem, but I'm now using only one monitor and the problem persists. If I use -vo gl I don't get any tearing. Also downgrading back to xorg-server 1.4.2 gets rid of the tearing.

I don't really know if this is even an nvidia problem (or xorg or gentoo packaging), but I figured here would be a good place to post about it.

Thanks,

Edit: Hmm, seems to only affect mplayer. Installed xine and it works fine.
Edit2: It affects vlc also.

I confirm that - in fullscreen MPlayer video I see diagonal tear-line and in OpenGL apps (like screensaver) I see horizontal tear at 1/5 of the screen (the shape is like this ````\________ ).

I'm not using any composite managers (just plain KWin).

Using xine in the meantime is a temporary solution. In the xine menu there is a sync to vblank option (enabled by default for me) which stops the tearing. mplayer has a similar option enabled by default, but it doesn't seem to work, so maybe they don't use the same method.

The rest of xorg 7.4 hit the tree today, but after an update I still have the same problem.

I have/had the same problem. Try applying this patch: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...attachment.obj to mplayer
This seems to fix the issue here
