Default 177.76, GF 6600, IPP=2, poor KMAIL scroll performance. Video attached.

When I set IPP=2, and then try to use mouse scroll in KMail (KDE 4.1.1), I get very poor scroll performance.

But when I switch to IPP=0, scroll seems to be much better:

maybe thats because the IPP=2 performance fix, etc is for the 8/9 series geforce cards?

I don't think so. It should work fine with 6/7 series. For example look at the 177.76 changelog:

* Fixed a text rendering performance regression on GeForce 7 series and older GPUs when InitialPixmapPlacement is set to 2.

It looks like NVIDIA tries to fix performance issues with IPP=2 on 6/7 series. So, let's wait for their reply for this performance issue.

Hey, there are web sites which work awfully slow with IPP=2, however IPP=0 makes them work nice and smooth.
As IPP=2 makes use of video memory extensively, PowerMizer impacts this too.
I'm using IPP=0, coz that's suite me best overall.

I really wouldn't recommend setting IPP to 0, since that locks all pixmaps in system memory and forces all rendering to them to happen in software. IPP=1 is the default and what I would recommend if IPP=2 is slower for you.

We're planning on making IPP=2 the default on GeForce 8 and higher, but GeForce 7 and below will still have IPP=1 as the default.

Does this mean that GeForce 7 won't have IPP=2 at all or will it switch to default IPP=2 while the IPP=2 suppurt matures with time?

I guess it simply won't be enabled by default, you can enable it if you wish to.

Well, I can't speak for nvidia here, but time has shown that the older the card becomes, the less improvements and fixes it receives.

Thanx for useful suggestion, but how then You explain that IPP=0 works best overall even using software? Heh, PowerMizer...
For example scrolling this page, IPP=0 scrolls smooth all the time, IPP=2 makes it scroll slow, it feels laggy, scrolling speeds up after a while (PowerMizer kicks in), though. I can't set it to 2 coz it's slow then, we need some tweak to control PowerMizer to be satisfied with the performance, w/o it, IPP=2 isn't appealing at all...

I can't see any difference between IPP=1 and IPP=2 on GeForce 6600. KMail with IPP=1 performs exactly the same (poor) as on my first video from the first post (scrolling with IPP=2).
