Well, it's definately a console port... AND it is a resource hog... but it plays well, looks good and has a lot of visual options, which most ports don't.

Annoyances:
- Menus are keyboard only
- Many graphics options require a restart when changed, and I don't think they tell you that when you change them in-game. I experimented with turning dynamic lighting off and then could not get it back on.
- Can't get over 25-30fps no matter what I do.
- Cars drive like crap compared to GTA4's awesome physics
- Not a really graphically impressive game on any platform

Coolness:
- Looks a lot better than console version
- Fun game
- Mouse aiming is tight

PICS! I have no idea what options are on or off in these, as I was experimenting often.

Other then AA and higher resolution textures and models look identical to the console version. Atleast from those shots... the 30fps limit is probably left over from the console code.

Please don't compare it to GTA4... yes its open world but it doesn't take itself seriously.

Wow, this game is demanding. As I just told Magus... GTA4 runs better on max settings on my system. If that doesn't set you up for what to expect, I don't know what will.

Those shots were with dynamic lighting off I think, and with it on the game looks a ton better. Unfortunately, the game is soooooooo resource greedy that having dynamic lighting on means a few sacrifices. I refuse to lower my resolution, so I am still trying to find a good balance to get a playable framerate. Turning off dynamic shadows gives you some fps, but at a cost... turning off AA and AF oddly doesn't seem to help one bit.

Still messing around...

Well, sadly this is another half assed port.

No true widescreen, it's Bioshocked.
Can't use my cordless RumblePad 2.
No mouse in menus is so lame.
Missing most 16:9 resolutions, only 16:10 or 4:3. (12x7 seems to be there only)
My frame rates are fine and stuck at 30 it seems.
At least FSAA works on most surfaces.
Why are there 2 motion blur settings in Display options?

from what I read the framerate cap from the console is still in place.

Yes, but for me getting to 30fps is a problem with all settings maxed or at least at a decent level.

I'm stuck at 12x10. 19x10 isn't available and 12x9 chops off the top and bottom of the screen.

PC review @ ign.com http://pc.ign.com/articles/941/941952p1.html 6.3/10 yikes.

I was really looking forward to playing this on my PC, this is a real shame.

Glad to see I'm not insane... this game runs like crap. People thought GTA4 ran like crap, but that game runs like butter on my rig compared to SR2.

Let's take a visual tour through poor performance land...

A good way to inscreas the framerate is to lower the lighting and processing effect... here are full lighting effects, followed by full lighting without HDR, followed by lighting effects off, with framerates:

Now if you're at all like me you say the final one is unplayable, but the middle one is doable. So you leave it on that... then you go outside.

15FPS!!! And it fluctuates madly.

The game is basically unplayable with the lighting effects on, and the game looks like complete crap with the lighting effects off. Those effects were in the console versions running on a computer far worse than mine, so the only explanation is poor porting.

Lame.
