GTX 280 fan speed

Hey,
Anyway I can adjust the fan speed in the NV control panel? I don't want to use rivatuner/evga precision due to the fact that COD4 MP may be crashing because those apps are running. I have always had my fan running at 75% just because I don't want it to heat up. Maybe it will adjust correct if left alone?

Oh, I'm using the new 178 driver

As long as you don't have a defective card, the fan is quite good at keep temps in a reasonable range. Just keep it on auto, unless you are having problems with overheating, in which case you should check air flow, or RMA it.

mine runs at 720rpm till it hits about 81c the ups to 1024rpm running the 178 drivers .


one question is is the fan bios fan controlled or software? the 8800gt was bios

thanks so not like the 8800gt then i got a updated bios for fan speed for that card

Install nTune and accept the end user agreement. Then you have fan control and GPU clocks under "Adjust GPU settings". I had to install nTune and accept the end user agreement to get Riva Tuner to allow me to OC under Vista x64 for some reason. Options were gray and locked until then.

If you game with headphones on high fan speed shouldn't bother you. I run 75% when I game because I have a medium high OC. I use the headphones so it doesn't matter to me.

does ntune now work with intel boards? thought it did not i tryed it a while back

Yep, in a limited fashion. See my sig. I've used it on i975x, P965, and P35. It doesn't do all the functions it might with an nVidia board however it's fine for what the OP wants, or controlling your graphic's card clocks, monitoring its temp, and fan speed.
