780i and QX9650 problems.....

Ive got a first generation 780i evga with a QX9650 qual core. Im having continious problems that I cant seem to narrow down. Ive heard (around the net) that that motherboard and that processor dont work well together. Has anyone else heard this? If so why? Im OC'd to 4.5 ghz but I worked my way there very slowly over time and Ive even dropped back to stock speeds and still problems. Ive alreay resigned myself to getting a 790i FTW PWM when I can get one from New egg.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

May I ask:

1) What in the $&@^ are you doing running a 780i chipset with an ATI card? (run Intel)
2) What in the $&@^ are you thinking in saying that you'll possibly replace the defective 780i with another Nvidia chipset when running an ATI card? (run Intel)
3) How in the $&@#^ did you get that QX9650 to 4.5ghz on just a freezone? I want to know more about this one. That's nice.

Well, I was trying to replace my two GTX's with the 4870x2 but hell I couldnt get any stability out of any game I tried. Every game crashed inside one minute. Are you telling me to dump my motherboard for an Intel board? I was just going to send back my 4870x2 and wait for the next nvidia card. What intel board would you recomend?

I added an external large fan to my freezone and she's doing the job. Voltage is 1.5V and cpu temps idle around 40C.
