As others have reported, I'm having freezes on Kubuntu 11.04. This is a new install, and I'm using the nvidia 270.41.06 driver (from the ubuntu/kubuntu repos). Resizing the konsole (terminal) causes the screen to freeze. After turning off Desktop effects, the freezes stop. Googling this issue, I see that some are advising a newer driver directly from the nvidia site.
Two questions: 1) will this work, and if so what is the updated driver number? 2) When will a fixed driver get into the ubuntu repos? I'm one of those cats who really doesn't like to go outside the repos -- especially when the drivers must show up there eventually. thx, feffer777 |

I'm running debian testing with KDE 4.6.3 and NVIDIA 270.41.19 at my old ASUS laptop with GeForce 7300 GO. When I turn on visual effects in KDE the next message appears in .xsession-errors log:
link XMLID_36_ hasn't been detected! Couldn't find node desktop-northeast. Skipping rendering Effects doesn't turn on. Sometimes my desktop freezes as You've described. The same issue was when I tried to use compiz instead of kwin. But everything worked fine with NVIDIA 260 series drivers. At the same time visual effects work great at my desktop computer with NVIDIA GTS250 GPU and 270.41.19 driver version. |

Any idea when a fixed driver like 275.09.04 will get into the repos?

I have just installed the latest stable driver ver. 275.09.07. Nothing has changed. Kwin effects doesn't work. xsession-errors.log contains the same error:
