Hi,
I installed the x86-177.78 driver on Ubuntu 8.04 and found that it leaves me with an almost unresponsive system when Google Gadgets are running. Most of the time restarting X (ctrl-backspace and wait a few seconds) and loging on again get things working as normal again. I believe this started for me with the 177.70 driver. I only just found out it has to do with the Google Gadgets. I've got a Dell Precision M2300 laptop with a Quadro FX 360M chip. I attached nvidia-bug-report.log. I can't find how to set logverbose 6 on startx on Ubuntu so I didn't do that. If this is needed, please let me know how to do it and I will. -Bart Last edited by eombah; 10-05-08 at 07:37 AM. I can confirm this as well. I had to give up on Google Gadgets because it made the entire desktop crawl to a halt when running. I thought at first it was GG's problem, and so I uninstalled it and didn't think anything more of it. Maybe it does some funky transparency things which triggers bad stuff to happen.
You should consider including a nvidia-bug-report.log file in your post, this makes life easier for anyone who decides to take a look at your problem. -- Ubuntu Hardy x86, Gnome desktop (no Compiz), GF 8600GT PCI Express, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300@2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, Nvidia BETA driver 177.* recommended settings. |

Forgot to say that my ~/.gnomerc contains:
Code:
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 When I remove that, Google Gadgets runs fine and so does gnome. |
