I see this as only a good thing. I'm quite positive about AMD's future despite the general state of the economy, they've covered all their bases and have learnt from their previous mistakes. It will still take a lot for them to pull this move off smoothly, but it should pay off.

There is nothing AMD will compete with. Too bad really. The only breathing department in whole AMD division is ATI, for how long? It's hard to tell. I hope somebody can bail out ATI out of this AMD-ATIC deal, so ATI can start fresh again. ATI was doing just fine before deal with AMD, but ATI had greedy CEO and Managers.
Intel release of Nehalem had really good timing. Nehalem is just last nail into AMD-CPU coffin.

UAE has the cash to spare , US investors (at the moment) don't.. so i think it is a good move for AMD. (it is still better than China investing in them lol). The new company (Foundry) can gain money by manufacturing other chipsets than those of AMD. AMD still can manufacture its chipsets at competitive prices since it has a share in the Foundry company but doesn't have to deal with all the difficulties of managing a chip foundries nor the cost associated with them. Hopefully, they can start focusing on designing better CPUs and GPUs

This is great news, for one a top high tech foundary will be in US, really nice with what is going on with the economy. Great for the investors since AMD is really the only competitor Intel really has and no real other competitors are out there. Hope this works out for everyone.

When McGregor first learned of AMD's plans, he told us, he asked AMD officials where the processor production expertise will go. All of it, he says AMD told him, will go to the new entity currently being called The Foundry Company. And who is it that will be doing the participation with IBM, in the development of new fabrication and 22 nm production technologies. Again, McGregor was told it would be The Foundry Company.
