Default System randomly enters suspend to RAM state

When playing games my machine randomly suspends to RAM. It comes out of the suspend perfectly (to the point where I can continue playing whatever game was active as if nothing had happened). This only happens when I'm playing 3D games so I'm assuming this issue is somehow related to the NVIDIA driver. The machine does not overheat or anything similar (not according to 'nvidia-settings' anyway).

My machine has an 8600GT card (the laptop kind). I've been experiencing this with drivers between 173.xx to 177.80 and 2.6.25-2.6.26 kernels.

I can find no information on who or why decides that the machine has to suspend.

Bumping this:

I'm now using kernel 2.6.27, NVIDIA driver 177.80. Easy to put the system into suspend by running the program from this OpenGL tutorial and moving the objects around. As always the system comes out of the suspend perfectly.

Any suggestions as to what kernel debugging options I should activate to help track down the root of this problem ?

At a first glance the drivers downloaded from here seem to fix this issue for me: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=20702

No idea what's different about them from the "official" NVIDIA release but they don't seem to exhibit the problem. I'll keep them for testing for a few days and post the results here.
