Every forum and news blog I read people are still complaining about this issue when it has two easy and already discussed over and over solutions. Why? If the mouse lag bothers you, google it, read the solution, do the solution, enjoy.

Mouse aiming is awesome in this game once tweaked. I can't imagine using a control pad for it now.

Start a new game on impossible. It's not unbeatable, very well balanced. But you count every round of ammo and are as likely as not to lose a battle. Very, very intense.

EDIT: You won't have the new suit - but that stops mattering as much when you have to figure out just how to stay alive to the next store or healthpack.

I am going through the game again (after losing my saves a while back...my fault...and also making a detour with Resident Evil 4...which was freaking awesome), i am currently on mission 8. I have made more upgrades than i did before (thank you power nodes) making some of the enemies easier to dispence with, eitherway i am enjoying this game.

EDIT: They really need to sort out the hard difficulty bug.

im stuck on the part in teh beginning where you have to sit in that big gun and shoot the asteroids i cant beat im going to try and beat that part today

I don't know about it being better than FEAR, but I agree the game is amazing. It's on my top 5 for 2008 for sure.
