Default Re: FarCry 2 Feedback Thread (PC)

Hey guys, new to the thread. Having a problem with Farcry 2 and haven't been able to fix it so I'd appreciate any help...
In DX9, no matter the resolution I can get the picture to completely fill my TV. When I use DX10, I always have a black border even when I maximize the screen to 1920x1080 which is my native resolution. This same thing happens in Crysis, but no other games I run have issues.
In windows, When I first installed my video card I noticed the same thing, but I enabled the scaling slider in CCC and was able to maximize the desktop image. I was wondering if this might have something to do with it, as if the game doesn't recognize that this is enabled or something. Like I said tho, only Crysis and Farcry 2 give me this problem. Thanks for your input.

Also, anyong get any headway on that crashing issue? DX9 never bombs on me, but DX10 always does at about an hour of use (with no errors).

That would make sense. I have a plain 4870 in another PC with the same problem as this 4870x2. So I guess Nvidia has their stuff together where ATI doesn't.... Just not sure I'd want to dump this cards. It's stupid fast compared to anything else I've ever owned.

Anyone else play with a sniper rifle?

I shyed away from it at first because you can only carry a sniper or assault rifle, but after playing a couple hours today and using the Sniper most of the time, I have to say it makes the game a lot better. First off, you can pick off the checkpoint dudes from obscene distances and they never see you. Second off, enemies die in ONE HIT with a sniper. My biggest complaint with the game was the freaking superman enemies, so this is awesome. Unfortunately I only have one sniper available at the shop... better get on those weapons dealer missions.

Is anyone playing on hard?

I'm playing on normal and the thing that annoys me most with this game is that I never really feel like I'm in danger. I have a ton of syringes and I can take a lot of bullets. I can stand right in front of someone and take a clip full of maching gun fire without going down.

The game was irritating enough on medium. Actually having to worry about dying every time you get shot would make it not worth playing IMO.

I'm really enjoying this game so far, and it runs really well on my 4830. I don't see why theres all the hostility towards this game, I think its a really solid game. The graphics are decent, the missions are enjoyable, and the setting is really cool and underplayed.

Honestly I agree... the checkpoint thing bothered me for a bit, but once you learn how to avoid them it's all good. I found the combat a bit hard on normal, but now that I snipe from a distance it's all good.

I understand some of the annoyances, but the hostility toward the game is indeed weird in my opinion as well.

The checkpoints, while they do interrupt what you're doing them, add a lot to the game and make the world seem more life like. Its also pretty easy to avoid them if you are in the middle of something and cant be bothered to clear them out. I agree, the game is a lot more enjoyable with a sniper rifle. I've been using a uzi (in the pistol slot) a sniper and a flame thrower and I don't feel like combat is ever too difficult. You just have to know when to take cover, you can't always get away with running and gunning.
