Do you have to play the first game to understand the second?

No kidding. The game does get VERY repetitive and boring. Fighting same enemies in every godforsaken same spot every 30 sec with every so predictable machine gunners on a jeep with recycled mission objectives are one hell of a yawn-making ride plus going from point A to point B takes like literally 5 min of nonstop driving only to fight same enemies risen from the dead over and over again. I felt prince of persia was somewhat similar to FC2 in terms of repetitiveness. Assassin's Creed was repetitive too but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I got bored with FarCry 2 also. It completely lacks everything you would expect from a sandbox game. There is absolutely no reason to explore besides searching for diamonds, that's it. Everything else is repetitive game play. The game is beautiful though, but needs more colors than green, yellow and brown.
STALKER>>>>>>>>>>FarCry 2.

Shooter of the Year, 2008, according to PC gamer.
Personally I would have said Dead Space, if that's considered a shooter.

I don't think Farcry 2 was bad, it was just very dissapointing. I really got into it eventually and put in 20-30 hours, but at the end of the day it's a fairly mediocre shooter, and a mediocre open-world game... the two together do not equal awesomesauce just on principle.
If 5 is "average" I would give it a 5 or 6... there were moments I was really enthralled, and there were moments I almost couldn't stand playing. It's like an ugly chick with a great personality. You want to fall in love with her on principle, but damn... she's just ugly.
